The South African government recently signed a three-year deal worth 468 million rand (US$58.9 million) for Microsoft Corp. software and services, including Windows 2000, Office and Internet service.
The deal is expected to save the government more than 300 million rand during its course by creating more office efficiency and providing a common communication platform, said Geraldine Fraser Moleketi, South African public service and administration minister.
The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) recommended that the government standardize and use Microsoft.
