SINGAPORE – Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (SingTel) is set to build a new state-of-the-art data centre in Singapore’s Kim Chuan area, its fifth facility in the island state.
Scheduled for completion in early 2010, the Kim Chuan Telecommunications Centre 2 (KCTC-2) will deliver highly secure and reliable network infrastructure services, SingTel says. With 150,000 square feet of data centre space, it will be one of the largest such centres in Singapore.
The telecommunications services provider expects increasing use of higher performance computing, such as blade servers, to drive demand for new data centre facilities able to support next-generation infocom requirements.
The new KCTC-2 will be constructed to meet the new requirements of the Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Green Mark scheme, a green building rating system that evaluates buildings based on energy and water efficiency, plus environmental protection and innovation.
Designed to withstand the increasing weight of sophisticated computing and data storage systems, KCTC-2 will bring SingTel’s total data centre area in Singapore to more than 500,000 square feet.
According to SingTel, KCTC-2 will be built to Tier-4 specifications, the industry’s most stringent data centre standards. Planned features include high capacity power and cooling systems with full redundancy, advanced fire suppression systems and cabling infrastructure designed to maximize uptime.
SingTel claims that KCTC-2 will allow its customers to meet end-to-end communications and IT needs, by providing access to the company’s managed hosting, converged, security, network and application performance services.
KCTC-2 is also expected to provide customers access to a wide range of SingTel consulting services to meet their requirements for deploying each phase of an IT project, says the telco provider.
