Separatist attack no longer part of Sony game

Sony Corp. has decided to remove all references to the Toronto fantasy mission from its upcoming video game Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain.

The Canadian Press (CP) reported last month that Sony received complaints about the game from the Bloc Quebecois and the Toronto Transit Commission. The game featured “Quebec Liberation Front” terrorists taking control of one of Toronto subway tunnel and attacking the city. The CP said the name of the terrorist group is an apparent allusion to the Front de liberation du Quebec (FLQ), which in 1970 kidnapped and murdered Quebec cabinet minister Pierre Laporte, leading to the imposition of the War Measures Act.

“Recognizing the importance of corporate and social responsibility, Sony Computer Entertainment America has decided to remove any reference to this group in the final version of Syphon Filter,” Sony responded in a written statement. “We deeply regret any misunderstanding this may have caused.”
