Scotts Valley, Calif.-based Seagate Technology LLC has acquired E-Discovery software maker MetaLINCS to help its enterprise customers protect and manage critical company data.
In purchasing the San Jose, Calif.-based MetaLINCS, Seagate will add the patent-pending E-Discovery software to its Seagate Services Group. MetaLINCS said its software automatically analyzes e-mails, documents and associated metadata, and presents visual analysis of people, conversations, concepts and communication patterns.
Seagate hopes to benefit from the emerging E-Discovery market and help companies respond to litigation and regulatory issues that require them to parse through large quantities of electronic data.
According to Gartner analysts Debra Logan and John Bace, “changes to the U.S. Federal rules of Civil Procedure, along with the ever-increasing reliance on electronic documentation in business, will have wide-ranging effects on the IT profession and IT vendors in 2007 and 2008.”
