Samples of some discussion group talk:

RICK: “I live in Ontario and don’t meet the convoluted guidelines for a top level ca. domain. Here’s the deal, if you live outside Ontario and are in a similar situation, we could trade addresses for each other’s ‘Inter-Provincial Branch Offices.’ So we could both obtain our own .ca domains! I will give you a phoney lease agreement and my phone #, and you will do likewise, so as to meet the Canadian Registrar’s guidelines. Any takers?”

ALAN: “This is, of course, fraud. Posting to a usenet newsgroup your intention to commit criminal fraud (even using the term “phoney lease agreement”) is pretty stupid, but responding to such a posting is even stupider, so I think you will not have any takers. WTF’s wrong with yourorg.on.ca instead of yourorg.ca? The whole point of the domain name system is to organize hierarchically. Having no rules and big profits yields disorganization. I’m *pleased* that the ca domain isn’t a cesspool like com, net, and org.”

STAN: “We tried getting a .ca but gave up in short order. It was too full of rules. By the time .ca begins to take off the whole of Canada Internet will be else where.”

BRIAN: “Strange, I’ve registered a CA domain name for myself, and helped others do so, and it’s always been quite straightforward. The rules are really very simple for anyone with enough brainpower to master tying their own shoes, and reading comprehension to understand Calvin and Hobbes.”
