Rogers AT&T Wireless raises its voice

Rogers AT&T Wireless announced Monday the availability of a new mobile service that lets subscribers literally tell their phones what to do.

The company’s new VoiceCommand hands-free voice-activated dialing service uses advanced voice recognition software and text-to-speech technology that lets users speak commands, instead of entering telephone numbers on Rogers AT&T Wireless handsets.

According to the company, the VoiceCommand platform allows users to create an extended online address book to make hands-free wireless calls. Customers can input up to 1,000 contacts from desktop programs such as Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes, and can add up to four numbers per contact. By pressing pound-11 (#11) on the handset, subscribers can command the handset to “Call,” “Phone” or “Dial,” and the VoiceCommand software confirms the contact or number and connects the call, the company added.

“VoiceCommand service makes it easy to store and manage phone numbers,” said Karen Webb, vice-president of product management for Rogers AT&T Wireless in a statement. “[We] are pleased to offer this advanced voice-activated dialing service to [our] customers across the country.”

VoiceCommand from Rogers AT&T Wireless is available now on all Rogers AT&T Wireless digital voice networks. The service costs $5.00 per month.
