Robert Half: Skilled IT pros still in demand

About 70 per cent of Canadian CIOs say it is equally or more challenging to find skilled IT workers than it was last year, according to a new Robert Half Technology survey.

More than half of the 270 polled CIOs (59 per cent) indicated that a shortage of qualified workers has contributed to their recruiting troubles. The inability to offer competitive compensation was cited by 20 per cent of respondents.

“Despite a more competitive job market, there are still talent shortages in certain IT specialties, such as applications development, web development and network administration,” Katherine Spencer Lee, executive director at the Toronto-based consultancy, said in a release.

Employers are struggling to find the most qualified candidates and some are more willing than others to negotiate higher compensation to get them on board, Lee added.
