Province helps fund interactive digital media projects

The Ontario Government recently handed out $850,000 to fund interactive digital media projects .

The SMART Toronto Technology Alliance, the Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance, George Brown College’s School of Design, the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation and the Interactive Multimedia Arts and Technologies Association received funding through Ontario’s Interactive Digital Media Small Business Growth Fund (IDM Fund).

The provincial fund supports projects that facilitate industry alliances, encourage innovation, and improve human resources and training.

“Interactive digital media is an industry that has great potential in advancing all sectors of the economy,” said Jim Flaherty, the minister of enterprise, opportunity and innovation. “This government believes that the IDM Fund is playing a significant role in building a strong, competitive industry cluster in Ontario.”

Cindy Pearson, the president and CEO of the SMART Toronto Technology Alliance, said her association was pleased to receive funding from the province.

“This funding supports a showcase lab, entrepreneur program and a peer program – all of which are key in building partnerships and industry networking,” she said. “It also allows us to promote IDM products and services internationally.”

A total of $6.4 million has been invested in seven projects through the IDM Fund.
