Redpine Signals Inc. has unveiled a system on a chip designed for wireless hardware with both Wi-Fi and WiMAX connectivity.
The San Jose, Calif.-based manufacturer says its Line-NMAX component can be used in both 802.11n and 802.16e Mobile WiMAX subscriber products, and provides “all the features” of the MIMO 802.11n Draft 3.0 client. It also has Mobile WiMAX Wave 2 features, such as HARZ, CTC and beamforming with uplink sounding.
It is targeted at applications requiring constant high-speed wireless connectivity, with the option of using either a Wi-Fi or WiMAX network.
The Line-NMAX uses Redpines ultra low power multi-threaded processor technology, and provides offload of some Layer 3 functionality. In 802.11n mode, it provides 300 Megabits per second of two-stream downlink. The manufacturer says it is designed for designed for single frequency networks because its signal processing technology helps prevent interference.
