Power Mac G4 Cube falls from Apple’s tree

Apple Computer Inc. sliced the Power Mac G4 Cube PC from its production lines, saying in a Tuesday news release that there is “a small chance” it will re-introduce an upgraded model in the future, but it has no plans to do so now.

The company first introduced the desktop Cube a year ago at the MacWorld trade show in New York, and debuted the newest version of the PC in February at the MacWorld trade show in Tokyo. Apple cited slow initial sales of the G4 Cube among reasons for its deep fourth-quarter earnings warning at the end of 2000.

Mac fans picked more of the G4 mini-tower computers than the Cube, the company said, despite sharp price cuts for the Cube in January.
