PDA maker Palm Inc. introduced its newest high-end handheld computer, the Tungsten T2. The new PDA features a sharper screen, more memory and more software than the original Tungsten T.
The new handheld sports 32MB of SDRAM memory, twice the storage capacity as its predecessor. It also features a 320 x 320 pixel transflective TFT display, which Palm claims is better for viewing both indoors and outdoors. It’s the same display used on the Palm Zire 71 and Tungsten C models.
What’s more, the new handheld comes equipped with built-in Bluetooth wireless networking, and also comes equipped with e-mail client software, SMS messaging and a Web browser. Palm’s software supports integration with Bluetooth phone models in more than 20 countries, according to the company.
Installed on the Tungsten T2 is Palm OS v5.2.1 and Graffiti 2, the latest generation of Palm’s handwriting recognition technology, now capable of doing on-screen writing recognition, freeing users from having to use the postage-stamp-sized Graffiti area on Palm PDAs. The Tungsten T2 also ships with MP3, video playback and photo software.
Palm sells the Tungsten T2 for US$399.
In related news, Palm has cut prices on two existing handheld models: Effective today, the m130 can be had for US$179 (US$20 less than before), while the m515 gets a US$50 price break to US$249. Palm said the Tungsten T2, m130 and m515 models should be available worldwide.
