Oracle unveils apps bundle for Euro midmarket

Oracle Corp. Thursday unveiled its E-Business Suite Special Edition, a package of enterprise applications targeted at midsize European companies and delivered ready to run on a hardware server, the company said.

The offering, to be sold by Oracle partners in 13 European countries, puts Oracle in head-to-head competition in the European midmarket with rivals SAP AG, Sage Group PLC and Microsoft Corp.’s Business Solutions unit, among others.

E-Business Suite Special Edition comprises the financial accounting, sales order management, inventory management and purchasing modules of the E-Business Suite for large enterprises, Oracle of Redwood Shores, Calif., said in a statement.

Oracle’s new offering “does not stand out from the crowd, unless you love Oracle,” but it is “a good me too!” said Nigel Montgomery, a London-based research director with AMR Research Inc. of Boston.

Between 10 and 25 people in a company are allowed to use the software. If more user accounts are needed, a company has to upgrade to the more expensive E-Business Suite. Pricing is determined by the Oracle partner delivering the product and differs depending on added software and services, an Oracle spokeswoman said.
