Shelly Jamieson will take the reigns from Tony Dean as head of the Ontario Public Service on January 7, 2008.
In addition to being named head of the OPS by Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, Jamieson will also be the next secretary of the Cabinet and clerk of the Executive Council, according to a released statement from the Premier’s office. These appointments will make Jamieson the most senior public servant in Ontario.
Jamieson has held the post of Deputy Minister of Transportation since January 2006, and is a former president of Extendicare Canada Inc. and a former executive director of the Ontario Nursing Home Association (now the Ontario Long-Term Care Association).
“Shelly Jamieson brings to this enormously important position a wealth of experience and a passion for public service that I know will serve Ontarians well and help our government move our province forward,” Premier Dalton McGuinty said in a statement.
Dean recently announced he will be leaving the post in January after serving as secretary of the Cabinet, head of the Ontario Public Service and clerk of the Executive Council since November 2002.
McGuinty praised Dean’s accomplishments in several areas, including the work he did with respect to improving the modernization of public services through Service Ontario and implementing the first money-back-guarantee for online services such as birth certificates.
