No more sitting on the fence when it comes to your PBX system

Even with all the recent advances in business communications (social media, mobile tech, etc.), many organizations are soldiering on with their legacy, on-premise PBX systems. They might defend their position with excuses like, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” However, in doing so they miss a key irony: that a legacy PBX system — slow, inefficient, and inconvenient compared to newer systems — ends up costing them not less but more in the long run.

Whether legacy or “new gen,” a PBX phone system is the backbone of a company’s operations — a critical investment. Even companies busting at the seams with smarts and know-how puzzle at the details of how and when to replace a piece of equipment as important as a PBX. Obvious red flags that indicate a need to “graduate” your PBX include a limited ability to work remotely, difficulty expanding to other locations, and limited (compared to “new gen”) features and functionality. In some cases, however, swapping out is less about what a company should do and more about what it must do to keep running at an optimal level.

This is precisely the case with companies that are still running CS1000M, Norstar and BCM, Mitel, Cisco, Panasonic, NEC, or Shoretel telephone systems. If you’ve had one of these systems in place for five or more years, your hardware support has more than likely ended. You’re now in the “run it into the ground” phase. Perhaps you’re even proud of this fact. While scrounging and band-aids might get you by for a while, over the long term it’s not sustainable. Sooner or later, there will be a tipping point.

There are now proven mitigation options that will allow you to move away from the traditional upgrade cycle, save money as you do, and add a range of capabilities that will help you outpace your competition.

Join ITWC CIO and Chief Digital Officer Jim Love and special Avaya guests Andy Corder, Senior Manager Sales Engineering Enterprise, and Americas International Mid-Market Cloud Leader Miles Davis as they discuss the transition from legacy PBX platforms to new, DX-era platforms. Among the topics to be covered in this session:

Do you believe in your business? Do you have big plans for it going forward? The most successful companies in the world are those that are willing to change as the situation demands. Changing your PBX doesn’t have to be scary, dramatic, or expensive. Cloud-based communications have matured. They now offer the stability and reliability of on-premise systems. This gives you a clear path to digital transformation, at least when it comes to your PBX system. And this path is one you can take at your own speed. Flexible consumption models, including public, private hybrid, and on-premise, give you the ability to change according to your company’s specific needs. The power and vision is entirely yours.
