NexInnovations signs on with EMC

With bytes of corporate data growing like blackflies in June, Mississauga, Ont.’s NexInnovations Inc. has partnered with EMC Canada to offer storage systems and software.

With the capability to assess, design, implement, train and support networked-storage infrastructures, NexInnovations is now one of 15 EMC premier solution partners in North America and the only one in Canada, said Rob Stroud, EMC’s Ottawa-based Canadian partner manager.

Offering EMC storage systems and software means that NexInnovations can now build the kind of consolidated storage solutions that will appeal to their enterprise and public sector customers, said Wendy Lucas, the company’s vice-president of solutions.

“When customers are looking at storage it’s (also) assessing their business and IT needs, their data migration, their organization policies, the access points to their data, plus the security and networking expertise. And we integrate all of those networked infrastructure components using the EMC technology,” Lucas said.

EMC’s main messages to Canadian IT managers, said Stroud, “is that networked storage saves money through consolidation.” And the cost savings per megabyte compared to direct-attached storage (DAS) – or adding a storage box to a single server – are considerable, he said.

Mindful that they can replace hardware but not their content, Lucas said protecting intellectual property is the most important thing to NexInnovations’ customers at this point in time.

Stroud said that since an enterprise can’t run without reliable, protected access to its data, customers are also increasingly interested in EMC’s business continuance capabilities, such as disaster- and fault-tolerant disk arrays.

“We’re seeing that companies’ data is potentially doubling every six to 12 months. So the scale in terms of growth, specifically in the fixed content area is enormous right now. Things like medical imaging, media and online services [mean that] people aren’t necessarily adding a tremendous amount of servers or applications, but what they are tending to do is grow those applications,” he said.
