The government of Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) is spearheading a new initiative to establish the province as a recognized information and communications technology (ICT) development centre.
Dubbed Nearshore Atlantic, the venture is a public-private partnership between the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Aliant and the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technical Industries or NATI.
The $1.5 million development initiative will bring big benefits to the local ICT industry, according to a release from Aliant, a communication solutions retailer with 51 retail locations in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick.
Nearshore Atlantic seeks to foster ICT business opportunities in geographies close to the Newfoundland and Labrador markets including areas in the US, Western Europe and some Canadian jurisdictions.
Besides the focus on growing business within the province’s ICT sector, Nearshore Atlantic also will adopt a strategy to attract non-NL based companies into the province to conduct software-related work for international markets.
According to the Nearshore Atlantic Web site, the province’s ICT sector offers several distinct business advantages including:
