Networked storage grows more popular

The networked storage architectures SAN and NAS are prevailing over direct attached storage, according to time series data reported in the 2003 Gartner & SoundView IT Spending Survey released this fall. The survey reports that users continue to move towards networked storage and increasingly look at both SAN and NAS rather than one or the other. The move to networked storage and open storage management favours EMC and Hewlett-Packard which have strong positions across the board, and Network Appliance which leads in NAS and is entering SAN, read the survey findings. Billed as the most comprehensive annual IT spending survey, more than 800 senior IT executives of mostly medium-to-large corporations were contacted.
