Manufacturing software firms propose merger

SolarSoft Business Systems, a Canadian software developer targeting manufacturers and distributors, plans to purchase Vancouver-based VantagePoint Systems Inc., which makes software for manufacturing companies.

Toronto-based SolarSoft’s parent company, CMS Acquisition Corp., announced yesterday it is offering to buy VantagePoint for US70 cents a share, on the condition that owners of VantagePoint stock tender at least two-thirds of the company’s shares. VantagePoint’s board of directors has approved the takeover bid.

SolarSoft makes enterprise resource planning (ERP) software with accounting, finance, stock control, inventory, warehouse management, logistics and e-commerce features. It also includes tools for quotations, sales orders, requisitions, purchase orders, electronic data interchange (EDI) and production planning.

VantagePoint’s software is targeted towards organizations involved in corrugated packaging, folding cartons, retail displays, food and beverage packaging, labels and multi-wall bags. It also owns HRMS Inc., which provides software for manufacturers of corrugated packaging and retail displays.
