Letters – Online expensive in Europe

Regarding your editorial about Europe being not connected, (“Confessions of a techno-slave”, Oct. 19, 2001, pg. 10), you are quite right. Having lived in England and France for 15 years until recently, I know the reason and it is quite simple.

Over there, you pay for your telephone calls by the minute, so if you have analogue internet, your phone bills can be extremely high for even small regular usage.

In Europe you pay by the minute to even call your next-door neighbour.

Simple.
