Juniper, Cisco lead service provider network gear market to all-time high

The sales of service provider routers and switches hit an all-time high in 2007, according to a report from Infonetics Research.

Worldwide sales were $11.2 billion in 2007, a 16 per cent increase over 2006 sales.

Cisco Systems and Juniper Networks led that growth, according to the report. Cisco’s router and switch sales in the category were up 20 per cent, while Jupiter’s rose 25 per cent.

Infonetics credits the migration of carrier networks to IP, MPLS and Ethernet platforms, increased consumer broadband penetration and increases in mobile and IP video traffic with driving the sales growth.

The report covers IP core and edge routers, carrier Ethernet switches, enterprise-class Ethernet switches and multiservice ATM switches.
