Smartcard providers poised for rollouts

Smartcard providers are gearing up for massive rollouts in the next two years in the wake of an Australian government review into the introduction of a national identity card.

August 7, 2007Bob Higgins of Toronto, writes: Why not have a smart card that can read the owner’s fingerprints to verify that the user is the owner? Perhaps read temperature also to verify it is a live person, not copied prints. The card could be purchased at a bank, for instance, where those obsessed with privacy could choose to use the protective feature or not. A more elaborate card would have a readout of the purchasing power remaining on the card.
