Intel conference needs buzz: Analysts

Intel, the power behind desktop and server computing, holds its annual Intel Developers Forum this week in San Francisco amid booming sales for devices it doesn’t make chips for — smart phones and tablets — and a hesitant global economy.

On the eve of the conference ComputerWorld U.S. quoted several industry analysts saying that situation, combined with a recent weak revenue forecast, means the company has to create some buzz there, particularly showing that the PC still has legs. Their remarks make interesting reading.

The company must have agreed, for its chief product officer told the conference opening that its upcoming fourth generation Core processors will set a new standard for mobile computing, including innovative Ultrabook, convertible and tablet designs. A new line of low-power CPUs will also be introduced in 2013.

We’ll have more conference coverage in the coming days.
