Quicker than you can say “JBuilder 3.5” Inprise/Borland has released JBuilder 4.
According to the company, the Java coding development tool is the only enterprise productivity environment that supports Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), and the latest version – which runs on Windows, Linux and Solaris platforms – is geared to speed the building of e-business applications, and of deploying them to Java 2 Enterprise Edition applications servers.
“It’s excellent: a stable product, feature-rich. I haven’t found anything I can’t do with it,” remarked systems integrator Kevin Dean of Dolphin Data Development in Mississauga, Ont. “It has all the features I need for the development and deployment of applications to the Internet.”
Heralded as “the perfect Java development tool” by AppLogic Inc. president Ali Pashaei, JBuilder 4 is tightly integrated with the Inprise Application Server and offers support for BEA’s WebLogic server. Users can run and debug EJBs and CORBA applications locally or remotely in the JBuilder environment and deploy EJBs without shutting down the application server.
“JBuilder’s new enterprise development features provide our customers with the technology they need to successfully build and deploy mission-critical e-business applications,” said Cheryl Giblon, Inprise/Borland Canada’s vice-president of marketing in Markham, Ont. “It’s a very visual program which allows you to make changes visually and then it will rewrite the code itself.”
The program also includes an extensible team development environment and version control system as well as IDE (integrated development environment) and performance enhancements. Experienced JBuilder users will likely appreciate the natural extension of JBuilder’s environment to explore and edit XML files and to drill transparently into Zip and Jar collections.
