CRTC rules cablecos must discount for ISPs

In response to an application from the Canadian Association of Internet Providers (CAIP), the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has directed cable carriers to offer a discount of 25 per cent on high speed Internet services to competing ISPs. The services must be available for resale within 90 days. A CRTC press release said the Commission will maintain these terms until the ISPs are able to connect their facilities to the cablecos as per earlier CRTC rulings. Copies of Telecom Decision CRTC 99-11 are available through the CRTC’s Web site at www.crtc.gc.ca or by calling the public examination room of any CRTC office.
