IDC: Brazil PC sales remain flat in

Even with the decrease of taxes, approved by the local government last December for PCs priced up to US$3,820, PC sales in Brazil remained flat compared to the last quarter of 2002, according to a research report from IDC Brazil released Monday.

According to the market research company, in the first quarter a total of 715,000 PC units were sold in Brazil. In the fourth quarter of 2002, the total was 710,000 units.

“Neither the tax reduction, nor even the exchange stability, have brought the results that the local government expected. The best performance came from the manufacturers who focused their sales on small and medium business,” said Marcelo Quint
