Nokia Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co. have joined forces to create a product package for remote asset management over wireless links, the companies said Tuesday.
The package combines the Nokia M2M Platform, a machine-to-machine connectivity product, and HP’s OpenView management software on an HP-UX or HP ProLiant server, the companies said in a joint statement.
Available in Europe immediately and in the rest of the world in the coming months, the package is targeted at companies who want to integrate management of remote assets into their existing IT infrastructure. Those assets could include utility meters, vending machines, forestry equipment or cars, HP and Nokia said.
“The objective is to give the customer one solution. In the past you had to contact different companies and put your own solution together,” said Petra Wochnik, a Germany-based spokesperson for HP of Palo Alto, Calif.
HP’s sales force, helped by Nokia experts, will sell the package while HP’s services organization will offer related integration and consulting services, said Reetta Rys
