Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) has opened the doors of its new multi-million dollar data storage centre for Asia-Pacific. Located in Sydney’s Rhodes. HP claims the enterprise storage centre is the first of its kind in the region, one of the largest in the world and will allow customers to gain first-hand experience of data storage solutions in a variety of configurations to suit their specific needs.
“The launch of this centre in Australia puts Asia-Pacific on the map in a fast-growing and highly important technology area for the future,” said Paul Brandling, managing director of HP South Pacific.
“Customers can witness new technology that they may have heard about but not yet seen in action.”
A full range of HP and Compaq storage solutions, including everything from NAS (network-attached storage) and SAN (storage area network) components to enterprise backup solutions and managed storage services, will be on display along with equipment from business partners like Brocade, Legato, McData, Quantum and Veritas.
HP expects more than 100 visitors from India to China to pass through the centre’s doors each month. It is the third HP facility of its kind, with the others located in Colorado Springs, U.S., and Nijmegen, Holland.
According to market analyst IDC, Asia-Pacific companies added 14,325T bytes of data storage in 2001, an increase of 93.6 per cent on the installed storage base of the previous year.
