Hewlett-Packard has given more oomph to it thin client solutions.
The company said it has put more kick into its Velocity network performance management software for its hardware-based thin clients by correcting for latency and packet loss.
According to Jeff Groudan, global marketing director for thin clients solutions, the latest version of Velocity improves frame rates over the previous version 300 per cent by cleaning up packet loss, which impairs the rate of information flow for applications like streaming video, unified communications and uploading and downloading files.
Velocity is a quality of service application that comes on HP thin clients that manages packet loss over wired and wireless networks.
HP also announced improvements to two of its thin client PCs. The m40 Mobile Thin Client – a 14-in laptop powered by a Celeron B840 processor that runs Windows Embedded 7 – has now achieved Citrix Ready HDX Premium Verified status for Intel CPUs. Citrix says the designation means the devices are capable of leveraging some of the more advanced HDX features such as multimedia redirection, optimized voice and video conferencing solutions.

Also, HP says its t410 All-in-One desktop computer now supports Citrix Excaliber (which unifies XenDesktop and XenApp functions) and Citrix Receiver 13.
The t410, which has an 18.5-in. screen and uses Power-over-Ethernet as its energy source, can be plugged into a XenDesktop network for an HDX experience. That gives it the ability to run multimedia applications.
Groudan said these thin clients are for workgroups that need secure data — there’s no data on the client — or have a distributed environment with lots of branches (think banks and retail chains), or have an office environment where people share PCs (schools, kiosks).

HP also said that its thin clients are now qualified to work with Avaya VDI Communicator UC, Cisco UC backend, Citrix Lync Optimization pack and Microsoft Lync 2013 native unified communications.
