A recent survey by Aon Consulting in Toronto has found that Canadian high technology employees are slightly less committed to their employers than they were last year.
The 301 employees surveyed work for either high-tech products or services companies, or within enterprise IT departments. Aon Consulting derived the results of the survey using its Workforce Commitment Index, which measures responses to questions that fall within the categories of productivity, pride, retention, responsibility and trust using a five-point agreement scale. The index is calculated by combining responses to the questions into a single measure.
Forty-three per cent of respondents said they trust the leaders of their organizations, and 51 per cent said they share the same values as their company.
While two out of three respondents said they intend to stay with their employers for the next several years, only 48 per cent said they would recommend their organization as a place to work, and 44 per cent said they would stay if offered more money to work elsewhere.
Despite the lower commitment levels, more than half of workers surveyed said they feel more optimistic about their organizations’ chances for success this year than they did a year ago.
