Google aims for spectrum bid

According to the Wall Street Journal’s online edition, Google might be one of the contenders scrabbling for a hunk of the spectrum up for grabs this January in the upcoming Federal Communications Commission auction.

The search giant will go it alone, sans partners, and is currently getting the financing together, which could run in upwards of $4.6-billion and will probably be comprised of money both proprietary and borrowed.

The article also pointed out that Google is currently running an advanced wireless network beta at its California HQ, which, the Journal said, would be handy practice for running such a substantial chunk of spectrum.
