International voice, data and Internet service provider Teleglobe Inc. signed a wireless service agreement Thursday with Global Networks Inc., a wireless data infrastructure provider, in a deal that will see the two companies combine efforts to jointly offer mobile solutions to business customers.
According to Montreal- based Teleglobe, the company will provide Global Networks with a base for offering mobile solutions because of Teleglobe’s experience in handling Channel Signaling System 7 (C7) and Signaling System 7 (SSL) standards.
Through Teleglobe’s Global Roaming Service, roaming messages are converted between C7 and SS7, allowing customers to place and receive wireless calls and short messages (SMS) during international travel. The company operates its signaling conversion platform, which is integrated with worldwide GSM-based operators. Together with Global Networks, Teleglobe enables mobile operators to offer services to their subscribers by making Teleglobe’s +979 International Premium Rate SMS Numbers available to those subscribers.
The new mobile services include directory listings, voting, business services, government as well as local applications and charity programs. Global Networks (Switzerland) recently launched an emergency fundraising program with UNICEF to aid Iraqi children by implementing a worldwide premium rate SMS service. In order to garner support carriers were urged to participate in this fundraising program by incorporating the +979 international premium rate number into their networks to facilitate this effort and allow their customers the chance to participate.
