Fujitsu cutting 2,100 jobs in Japan

Fujitsu Ltd. is to cut a further 2,100 people from its domestic payroll, the company said Thursday.

The job losses will be carried out through an early retirement program at four plants responsible for manufacturing printed circuit boards for communication equipment and electronic components, said a Fujitsu spokesman. Around 4,000 employees at the four plants were offered the package, with just over half taking up the offer.

Fujitsu said it views the job losses as being at a suitable level considering the overall condition of the technology, and particularly communication equipment, market.
