Fujitsu Ltd. and IBM Corp. will link their telecommunication server software so that business users can extend certain enterprise services onto public telephony networks, the companies said Thursday.
Using an open standard called Parlay, the companies will link Fujitsu’s GeoServe gateway, which links to the public phone network, to IBM’s WebSphere Telecom Application Server offering the client function, the companies said in a joint statement.
When linked together, the software enables new voice, data and IP (Internet Protocol) services, merging collaboration tools such as groupware and portals with public mobile and fixed-line telephony networks, IBM and Fujitsu said. For example, a service previously available only over the Internet can be accessed using voice, they said.
Parlay is an open interface standard developed by the Parlay Group, a 65-member consortium seeking to enable new telecommunication service applications. Fujitsu and IBM are active members. Other members include Cisco Systems Inc., Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson and France T
