Freedom in the eye of beholder

In regards to Poonam Khanna’s editorial “Privacy could become another victim” ( ComputerWorld Canada, Oct. 5, page 10), where do you come from?!

Your last line says “What’s life without freedom?” You’re way off. Freedom is not the question… SECURITY is. But, if you insist on linking them then I ask: Where is my freedom?

Freedom from higher taxes, freedom from people always looking for some way of getting a free ride at my expense? I want freedom from crime, I want to feel safe in my country. I want my kids to feel safe. I want them to learn responsibility.

So we are giving our government and law enforcement agencies extra freedom in achieving this end, i.e. “A BETTER SOCIETY.” Hey we should all be for it. Our democracy already has the necessary judicial system and charter of rights in place to deal with possible abuses of power of governments and police.

So there is no concern there.

Hey, will I still be free to go shopping, go for a drive, take a vacation, eat at any restaurant, see any concert, worship in any church, go to the school of my choice? You bet.

So really, we will still have FREEDOM won’t we?

Don’t go off track. You’re perspective is way off.

Please, if you’re going to write about something, be accurate. Planting these kinds of seeds of doubt is plain stupid.
