#FollowFriday: Go West to find great Canadian CIOs on social media

Western Canada CIOs Twitter

One of the ongoing challenges of running a national publication like CanadianCIO is that we can be accused of having a Toronto-centric approach. One of the great benefits of services like Twitter, meanwhile, is having the ability to more closely monitor and engage with IT leaders all over the country. With that in mind, I’m highlighting a few CIOs I follow in Alberta and B.C. that always have something relevant to say.

Shaun Guthrie, for example, is an IT director at Focus Corp. but he also makes time to lead the Association’s Edmonton chapter. He even makes time to check out the latest titles on technology and business leadership, including Disrupt IT, whose author I recently interviewed.

Then there is Santiago Gomez, IT manager at Williams engineering, who’s often found at local events supporting the CIO Association of Canada and other technology conferences.

And finally, of course, there’s Stephen Lamb, who I interviewed last year as part of our ongoing CIO Debate video series. The CIO of the British Columbia Institute of Technology is a true champion of social media — perhaps in part because he managed to secure one of the best IT leadership handles on Twitter.
