Hewlett-Packard Co.’s top executive, Carly Fiorina, has been appointed to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s transition team.
Schwarzenegger, who defeated California Governor Gray Davis in a recall election earlier this month, will be sworn in as soon as the election results are certified, a process expected to be completed in late November.
HP’s chairman and CEO joins former Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon; Congressman David Dreier, a Republican from San Dimas, Calif.; and others on the committee, which is chartered with advising Schwarzenegger on political appointees to the new administration.
“We’re honoured to be playing an advisory role in this important transition,” Fiorina was quoted as saying in a written statement. “The state is facing a unique and extraordinary set of challenges and opportunities that demand the involvement of all of us to address them.”
Meanwhile, Websense Inc., a San Diego-based provider of employee Internet management solutions, frowned upon the online coverage of the California election, claiming it was undermining employee workplace productivity.
“The California gubernatorial recall has sparked nationwide interest over the past several months due to its first-ever status and its broad candidate base,” the company said in a statement. “It is clear that employees all over the country are accessing numerous non-work-related news and candidate Web sites during business hours as the election draws near, creating a significant drain on employee productivity and network bandwidth.”
