EXCLUSIVE: Q&A with Jim McCarter

Over the summer, there was a storm of controversy over spending at eHealth Ontario, charged with delivering the province’s electronic health records system. In early October, Auditor General Jim McCarter delivered Special Report: Ontario’s Electronic Health Records Initiative, which detailed $1 billion in spending and the disappointing return on the investment.

IT World Canada readers responded with criticisms, suggestions, and even support for beleaguered eHealth Ontario. We took some of that feedback to McCarter’s office, where he discussed what eHealth Ontario actually accomplished, whether IT rather than medical professionals should have been running the initiative, the impact of “NIH Syndrome” and more in this video interview.
