EMC Corp. this month announced enhancements to its ControlCenter Database Tuner performance management software, which include support for EMC CLARiiON storage systems in Oracle database environments, as well as the addition of IBM DB2 UDB support for the company’s Symmetrix Enterprise systems, according to the company. Database Tuner, a component of EMC’s ControlCenter family of management software, automatically collects, correlates and presents database mapping and performance information which can then be customized for storage managers, system administrators or database administrators. The Boston-based Tzolkin Corporation last month launched a service that monitors Internet servers, balances the load among multiple servers and will automatically fail over to an alternate server should the primary server fail. Built on Tzolkin’s TZO Dynamic DNS service, the AutoFailover service is available in both an enterprise and SOHO version. Pricing for the enterprise version is US$99.95 per month, or US$995 per year. This version notifies the customer should the primary server become unavailable, and will automatically change the DNS record so the customer’s domain name is resolved to the IP address of the customer’s alternate server, according to the company. Novell Inc. announced the availability of its Native File Access Pack, which the company says enables Windows, UNIX, Linux and Macintosh OS users the ability to access storage on NetWare servers without the need for Novell software on their workstations. The Novell Native File Access Pack, managed through Novell eDirectory, offers network administrators improved management capabilities and allows users to store and retrieve information, regardless of what type of workstation they have. Available now for NetWare 5.1, the product is also available for approximately $440 per server, according to Novell.
