Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Fujitsu Technology Solutions Inc. (FTS) released its 128-processor Primepower 2000 server last month. The SPARC-compliant and Solaris-compatible server is outfitted with a 563MHz processor, 128GB main memory, 2,548GB total disk space, according to the company. FTS is looking to attract large corporate customers that have typically gone with Sun or IBM in the North American market. An entry-level version of the server with up to eight processors will be priced at close to US$200,000 with immediate availability, according to an FTS representative. Intel Corp. of Hillboro, Ore., began shipping samples of its third-generation gigabit Ethernet adapters in June. The two adapters – a desktop version and a server version – will be available later this year. Both are designed to be used in common copper networks and meant to help accelerate the deployment of gigabit Ethernet networks. Both the Intel PRO/1000 T Desktop Adapter and the Intel PRO/1000 XT Server Adapter are based on Intel’s single-chip gigabit Ethernet controller and feature auto-negotiation and auto-sensing technologies. They can be deployed in existing Category 5 and fast Ethernet environments. Pricing for the desktop adapter is set at US$99. Pricing has not yet been set for the server adapter. Provo, Utah-based Novell Inc.‘s ZENworks policy-enabled network management software will be integrated into Islandia, N.Y.-based Computer Associates International Inc.‘s enterprise management solution, Unicenter. The companies announced their partnership at CA World 2001 in July in Orlando, Fla. The Unicenter version that includes ZENworks will be available in the third quarter of 2001 and will be available for free to ZENworks and Unicenter customers. According to the two companies, the integrated solution will offer customers a unified management console that allows them to optimize the management of heterogeneous networks while maintaining high availability and performance in a secure environment.
