Designing Web Sites for ROI

As an information architect, I’m often asked to make recommendations on small scale usability problems on a Web site. While lower case ‘u’ usability is an important aspect of my job, information architecture has an increasingly important role to play in designing sites for ROI – upper case ‘U’ usability. That is, ensuring that investments in a site translate into measurable business results, whether that means higher sales of widgets, bigger communities of users, or saving money by ensuring your colleagues can get that latest presentation on the company intranet.
