Dell recently refreshed its 14″ Latitude 7490 series notebooks with a new look and a few new features.
The best addition this round is the new Active Steering Antenna (ASA) that seeks and locks onto the strongest Wi-Fi signal. Unlike beam-forming antennas, ASA does so by alternating between radio emission patterns to match the one with the strongest signal strength. What’s impressive is that this is done using a single antenna and radio.
Displays suck quite a bit of power, which is why Latitude 7490 now employs a Super Low Power display. Compared to the previous model, the new display is 50 per cent more efficient than standard FHD panels without sacrificing performance.
In addition to the standard plastic shell, users now have the option of a more premium aluminum shell. Aluminum’s malleability means it’s more resistant to cracking than plastic, but dents more easily. The new look has been applied to the 13″ Dell Latitude 7390 as well, though it doesn’t come with the enhanced antenna and better screen.
Nothing has changed on the performance front. It still comes with up to a quad-core Intel Core i7-8650U processor, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, and 256GB SATA SSD.
