Telecom firm Cable and Wireless PLC has begun notifying customers that it will be exiting the domestic voice services, frame relay and ATM markets in the U.S.
Cable and Wireless plans to concentrate on its hosting business, which it bolstered by acquiring Exodus and Digital Island, as well as high-end IP services, including IP virtual private networks, content delivery networks and IP voice.
The cutoff date for the canceled services will be in the late summer or early fall, says Cable and Wireless spokesman Chad Couser. Most of the businesses that will be affected by the service changes will be small- to medium-sized companies, he adds.
Cable and Wireless had hinted it would be changing its U.S. business at the company’s year-end meeting for 2001.
Voice, frame relay and ATM customers are being advised to find alternative providers.
