Crop Insurance to set up Web shop

Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corp. is turning to Atlanta-based legacy-to-Web specialists Jacada Ltd. to build an Internet self-service application for its Crop Insurance Program, which provides crop producers with insurance protection against natural hazards.

The Government of Saskatchewan already runs the majority of its business-critical applications on the iSeries platform, according to Terry Dingle, the agency’s executive manager of information technology. The company will use the Jacada Interface Server to Web-enable existing iSeries functionality and deploy a browser-based interface directly to crop producers via the Internet.

Using the Internet application, officials say farmers can access policy quotes and amend personal information. Saskatchewan Crop Insurance also hopes to use the technology to reduce administrative costs and provide producers with an alternative to telephone contact.
