Compaq Computer Corp. announced a new notebook the Notebook 100 this week.
The Notebook 100 offers a 475MHz Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) processor, choice of a 12.1-inch SVGA (SuperVGA) HPA (high performance addressing) or TFT (thin film transistor) display, 4MB or 8MB of SDRAM (synchronous dynamic random access memory), a 5GB hard drive, a CD-ROM and a 56K-bps (bits per second) modem. An upgrade to 64M bytes of SDRAM and a 12.1-inch TFT active-matrix display costs $1,499, Compaq said in a statment.
The notebook is priced at US$1,099 and available either directly from Compaq or through resellers in North America, Latin America, China, Europe and the Middle East, Compaq said.
The notebook comes with Microsoft Corp.’s Windows 98 SE operating system, a choice of MS Office applications, Symantec Corp.’s Norton AntiVirus, WinFax Basic fax software and Adobe Systems Inc.’s Acrobat Reader. The device is aimed at small and medium-sized business users and the education and government markets.
