Cognos, Fujitsu expand partnership

Ottawa-based business intelligence (BI) vendor Cognos Inc. and Fujitsu Ltd. on Wednesday extended their strategic alliance.

Under the basic terms, Cognos’ PowerPlay, one of the more essential pieces of its Cognos Series 7, and Fujitsu’s Symfoware Navigator, an information building and delivery tool for multi-dimensional output from relational databases, will now be integrated for pre-existing enterprise customers.

The two companies have previously worked in unison. Back in November 2001, DMR Consulting, a Fujitsu company, said it would endorse and implement Cognos’ Series 7 for its customers. A year later, Glovia International, the business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce subsidiary of Fujitsu, deployed Cognos’ Finance tool.

Initially targeted in Japan, the companies said the joint solution would bring a more complete view of business processes and a consistent view of information. In addition, they will establish a collaborative support and services organization to serve customers.
