Further executing against its breakaway strategy and six-point business plan, Cisco Systems recently announced several organizational changes that align the company’s focus around changing customer requirements and emphasize the company’s advantages as the communications market consolidates.
These changes include moving from the company’s existing line of business structure to centralized engineering and marketing organizations. The new engineering organization will focus on 11 new technology groups, while marketing will focus on communicating Cisco’s unique technology differentiation. Cisco also announced several executive changes related to the new organizational structure. Mario Mazzola, an eight-year Cisco veteran and former senior vice-president of Cisco’s new business ventures group, has been named chief development officer.
Novell and Yahoo! to deliver enterprise directory
Novell Inc. has announced an extended relationship with Yahoo! Inc. to deliver solutions for the rapidly expanding enterprise portal market.
As part of the agreement, Yahoo! will include Novell eDirectory as the default directory server for the Corporate Yahoo! enterprise portal, replacing the iPlanet Directory Server. In addition, Novell is integrating its Net services with Corporate Yahoo! and will deliver solutions built around both companies’ technologies to Novell customers and partners.
CA joins with webMethods to support OMI standard
Computer Associates International Inc. has announced its support of the Open Management Interface (OMI) specification being authored by webMethods Inc.
The OMI specification will provide the monitoring mechanisms necessary to gain full visibility into enterprise-wide eBusiness operations, allowing application integration components to be managed in the same manner as systems infrastructure. This common monitoring paradigm will enable companies to deliver on the promise of true end-to-end service level management. The unified management of systems and integration software enabled by the OMI specification will allow IT organizations to complement their current infrastructure management capabilities with effective monitoring of the performance of business processes and workflow performance.
