CIO of the Year: Next Generation Leader – Matt Pedalino

The winner of our 2022 CIO of the Year Next Generation Leader category is Matt Pedalino, CIO of Harrison Pensa, LLP.

As CIO for a 200-person law firm in London Ontario, Matt was nominated for this award by the CIO he replaced, who says,

“Matt is not only absorbing my 21 years of knowledge with the firm, he is currently managing the firm’s relocation to a new building, replacing our enterprise accounting software and server solution, has completed a SOC 2 program, and is managing the second year audit process. Additionally, he is guiding a new development team to support a SaaS product we provide to clients who are also actively doing security audits as well.”

As anyone who has ever negotiated an office move knows, it can be one of the most difficult change management projects we undertake.  In the post-COVID world, Matt was faced with a double challenge – not only to move the office, but to implement new technologies and work processes which would result in a much smaller physical office and a truly hybrid work environment.  Even more challenging, Matt had to do this as a new CIO with a group of highly experienced professionals with long established practices.

Matt contributed to the successful relocation of the firm to a smaller space by utilising hoteling solutions and online repositories that have also resulted in significant savings for the firm.

When faced with the need to digitise tens of thousands of files in preparation for relocation, he not only met this technical challenge, but used that to champion a new way for the firm to operate more efficiently and with much less paper.

While condensing the firm’s older, larger space into a newer smaller one, he used creative strategies to make hoteling, new technology, and online repositories contribute to win staff support.  At the same time, he was able help plan for greater efficiency in the new space.

His collaboration with the Chief Operations Officer developed a strong partnership that helped everyone see the positive results of the changes in premises and workflow.

Congratulations Matt for winning the 2022 CIO of the Year in the Next Generation Leader Category!
