CES: 5 trends in the smartphone market

It’s been years since people used their smartphones for simply placing calls and in 2013 handset makers at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas have come up with a bevy new features to make cellular mutli-tasking even more enjoyable.

It will be pretty hard to ignore the call of these five key trends that are making their way in the smartphone market.

The Huawei Ascend D2

Larger screens and higher resolutions for better on-phone movie watching and game playing are hot. Just check out the touchscreen real estate on the like of Sony’s Xperia Z, Huawei’s Ascend D2 and ZTE’s Grand S which all sport full HD, 5-inch screens with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.

Quad-core processor makers must have all been working double time last year in order to crank out those chips as embedded on handsets like the Xperia Z and Grands S. Expert more smartphone makers to offer their own version of quad-core powered units in the very near future.

High-resolution cameras with up to 13 – megapixel resolution are another trend sure to make snapshot-happy mobile phone users glad. Look out for more models that offer both rear and forward facing cameras capable of shooting video at 1080p.
