Austin, Tex.-based Tivoli Systems Inc. and Ericsson will jointly develop a set of mobile device management services that will enable general packet radio service (GPRS) and universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) or third generation (3G) mobile manageable out-of-the-box communication devices. The goal is to create devices that work immediately upon purchase. Ericsson will use Tivoli device management technologies in its next generation of mobile communication devices. The mobile device management that will come out of the partnership will give mobile operators a complete view of the subscribers, services and user devices, and the tools to manage them. The two companies are also working together to propose a new set of international standards for managing the next generation of mobile devices.
Vpacket Communications of Milpitas, Calif., released the 6100 Series of advanced voice and data routers for business and enterprise communications over packet networks. The 6100 Series allows service providers to offer voice and data services over a single broadband connection to mid-size businesses, branch offices, multi-tenant units and campus environments. The 6100 Series supports up to 24 voice-over-IP (VoIP) ports and offers voice monitoring and Quality of Service, a wide array of LAN and WAN interfaces, and compatibility and interoperability with leading DSLAMs, softswitches and voice gateways, according to the firm. The 6100 Series includes a digital signal processor (DSP) dedicated to quality measurement algorithms and tests that provide end-to-end voice quality measuring in mean opinion score (MOS) equivalents.
Mississauga, Ont.-based Motorola Computer Group of Canada is opening a new office in Nepean, Ont., to accommodate an expanded team dedicated to serving the Ottawa region. Motorola Computer Group has experienced 40 per cent annual growth over the last two years and has collaborated with many of the major telecommunications OEMs in the Ottawa area. The new office occupies about 3,500 square feet and will house a staff of eight senior system engineers and account managers. The Ottawa office is headed by Robert Pettigrew, Canadian engineering manager.
