Computer Associates International Inc. (CA) said last month that it will partner with four companies to assist corporations with providing business applications via a variety of wireless devices.
CA will partner with Aether Systems Inc., Motorola Inc., Nokia Corp. and Soft Design A/S to offer business applications over wireless networks, said Taoling Xie, CA’s director for mobile e-business brand management. CA’s Jasmine ii eBusiness software will assist with backend integration capabilities for providing legacy applications, he said.
Users will be able to access the applications on laptops, PDAs (personal digital assistants) and Internet-enabled phones.
Some of the applications that might be accessed include CRM (Customer Relationship Management), ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), SAP AG’s software, messaging, Microsoft Corp.’s Exchange and Lotus Development Corp.’s Notes, Xie said. CA is offering security capabilities over wireless networks with its eTrust application, he said.
Customized mobile applications based on CA’s eBusiness infrastructure management software will be provided by system integrators, such as Electronic Data Systems Corp. (EDS), the company said.
Nokia will assist corporate customers that use its 9210 Communicators to offer wireless applications and services. Motorola, meanwhile, will integrate and support efforts to access corporate data and applications from WAP-enabled devices.
Similarly, Copenhagen-based Soft Design will work with CA to develop technology to allow companies access to corporate applications and data from WAP and/or iMode-enabled devices. IMode is the wireless Internet service offered by NTT DoCoMo Inc. in Japan. Aether Systems, a wireless data products and services company in Owings Mills, Md., will provide its wireless management technology to deliver wireless applications, information and messaging.
CA announced the wireless initiative at CeBit in Hanover, Germany and CTIA eBusiness Management 2001 in Las Vegas.
